Hannah Paris - New Single - Little One - Out Now

Its with the greatest of pleasure that, we can not only announce the release of a sensational new heartfelt single from Hannah and Black barn Music but that she is due to give birth to a very special "Little One" in mid July. Exciting times!!!!

The song, "Little One" was written way back in the autumn when Hannah discovered that her and her new husband Jack were expecting a baby in the summer of 2024. With her hormones running wild, she sat down and was compelled to write a song; pouring out her emotions and her hopes and dreams for her growing bump.

As I'm sure that all regular readers of this blog are aware, I (Rick Paris) have produced all of Hannah's music since the back end of 2019 and whilst its been a pleasure, there is also the extra pressure too. But listening to an early demo back in February it was clear that this song needed special treatment, as it was going to be for our 1st grandchild!

Having recorded a scratch vocal and scratch acoustic guitar, Hannah had a pretty good idea how she wanted the song to sound and we quickly got "Scottish Shaun" in to record double tracks of finger picking acoustic guitar. Hannah envisaged the song to be a gentle finger picked track.

As producer, I like to have as wider range of soundscapes as possible when mixing and got Shaun to play and record extras including some double tracked strummed pieces too, that I could slip in, as/when/if required.

Its at this stage that I'm looking at the song "Big Picture", so to speak. Nothing is set in stone and everything is considered, especially for a song like this, a song that hasn't had the chance to evolve in a "live" setting. By that I mean that many songs get altered during band rehearsals and at live gigs. Some songs are kicking around for weeks, months or even years before they are recorded. If a song has been gigged, other musicians might have had an input in to how a section might sound, etc. Its the natural and organic way that a lot of songs are fleshed out from the original concept. In this case, the song was straight from the writing page and it is my job, with the artist to come up with the sound palate and the overal concept.

Its during this process that I started to mix in the strummed guitars into the chorus, this adds extra layers for the listener, it adds excitement. A Cajon was added into the chorus too, to add drive and weight and I do love adding shaker and tambourine to give the song extra rhythm. Its all these little additions, these layers that keep a song interesting after the first couple of listens.

The layers are not just instrumental either, they are vocal layers too. These include many layers of backing vocals and both male and female were added to the chorus and bridge.

Hannah's lead vocals are treble tracked and again these give depth to her voice, esp in the chorus. Its a technique used by all mix engineers in all the songs you here on the radio.

So, that's just a little bit about how I produced and mixed the song. I'm very proud of it and I hope that when my Grandchild is old enough, they can appreciate the amount of love that went into the song, not only from its mother but its Grandad too!

The song came out at the end of June and its available just about everywhere,

Enjoy
